DIAMOND HEAD Guitarist Says Hype Surrounding GRETA VAN FLEET 'Will Possibly Destroy Them'

DIAMOND HEAD guitarist Brian Tatler has defended GRETA VAN FLEET over accusations that the Michigan rockers have ripped off LED ZEPPELIN. Despite the fact that GRETA VAN FLEET has managed to sell out shows all over the world, the four-piece has been criticized for channeling a sound uncannily similar to LED ZEPPELIN, with some music fans slamming singer Josh Kiszka for allegedly copy-and-pasting Robert Plant's vocal style.

During a recent interview with Record Collector magazine, Tatler and DIAMOND HEAD singer Rasmus Bom Andersen were asked for their opinion of GRETA VAN FLEET.

"Well, I like the singer — I think he's really good — but I think the hype surrounding GRETA VAN FLEET is incredible," Tatler said (see video below). "I've never seen a band hyped as much as GRETA VAN FLEET. I think it will possibly destroy them or it will be tough to survive this kind of microscopic attention being placed on GRETA VAN FLEET. I hope they can do it. They're young, good-looking guys, the world's at their feet, but it's a hell of a lot of pressure — more pressure than bands like [LED] ZEPPELIN or [BLACK] SABBATH or [DEEP] PURPLE have had back in the day. So we'll see what happens."

Tatler went on to say that the ZEPPELIN influence in GRETA VAN FLEET's music is "pretty obvious," adding that Josh "does sound a bit like Robert Plant, doesn't he? You've gotta draw a comparison with ZEPPELIN, with that guy's voice," he said.

"There's a lot of bands that sound like METALLICA, there's a lot of bands that sound like IRON MAIDEN — why not have a band that sounds like LED ZEPPELIN?" he said.

GRETA VAN FLEET's debut album, "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army", landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart in July despite earning a lukewarm 53/100 score on review curation site Metacritic.

In December, GRETA VAN FLEET scored four Grammy Award nominations, one for each major rock category — "Best Rock Album", "Best Rock Song", "Best Rock Performance" — and a "Best New Artist" nod. They went on to win for "Best Rock Album" for their sophomore EP, "From The Fires".

DIAMOND HEAD's new album, "The Coffin Train", will be released on May 24 via Silver Lining Music.
