M?TLEY CR?E's TOMMY LEE On Stage Theatrics For 'The Stadium Tour': 'We're Starting To Put Together Something Incredible'

M?TLEY CR?E drummer Tommy Lee says that he is starting to think about ways to top the group's 2015 farewell tour, during which he and his bandmates played all their greatest hits with plenty of stage theatrics.

pyrotechnics, and even a roller coaster ridden by Lee.

Speaking about what he has planned for CR?E's 2020 "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD and POISON, Tommy said during this past Wednesday's (December 4) press conference at SiriusXM's Hollywood Studios: "I'm going to shoot myself out of a fucking cannon at this point. I don't even know what's left to do. We started designing the production a couple of days ago. We've always put everything we have into the design and the production, always try to do a show where people walk out going, 'That was fucking insane.'"

He continued: "There's a lot of new technology right now that we haven't gotten the chance to play with, and we're excited. We're starting to put together something incredible. And [it's] in a stadium, so everything's going to be four times as big."

Back in the mid-1980s, the CR?E's stage show saw Lee's kit mounted to a platform that would rotate forward almost 90 degrees, to allow audiences a bird's-eye view of his performance. According to Rolling Stone, Lee's kit-in-a-cage from the 1987-1988 "Girls, Girls, Girls" tour would raise him high above the stage and spin him head over heels, while the '89-'90 "Dr. Feelgood" jaunt had Lee and his drums traveling out over the crowd. For M?TLEY's 2011 summer tour, his kit was placed inside a Ferris wheel-like contraption known as "the 360" or "the Loop." For the 2014-2015 tour, Lee and M?TLEY CR?E production manager Robert Long developed the Cr?ecifly, which saw Lee negotiate 155 feet of roller coaster track in every position — forwards, backwards, even upside down.

"The Stadium Tour" will kick off July 7 at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium and wind down on September 5 at Los Angeles's SoFi Stadium. Tickets go on sale on December 13 at 10:00 a.m.

The 22-date trek marks CR?E's first live dates since wrapping its "farewell" tour. The band toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017, but the upcoming jaunt marks the first time all three acts have hit the road together for an extended tour.
